Mediacom World Class Scholars
Scholarship Program
Just like most families, the Mediacom family believes in the importance of higher education. As a corporation with strong community roots, we want to support the higher education of our customers. For this reason, we formed World Class – The Mediacom Scholarship Program to help graduating high school students with their college expenses, such as tuition and books.
Through the World Class program, Mediacom awards $1,000 scholarships to winning applicants. Our new online application is now open! The deadline for submissions is March 14, 2025.
- Name and email address of your school counselor.
- A copy of your high school transcript.
- An essay of no more than 500 words, typed and double-spaced.
- At least one letter of recommendation from an educator at your school or a community member. This can be in a Word Document or a PDF.
- Contact information, including name, phone number and email address, for your letter of recommendation(s).
- Optional: list of any achievements, awards, a resume, or anything you find relevant for consideration.

High school seniors who are graduating in 2025 and live in the areas served by Mediacom are eligible. Click here for a full list of eligibility requirements.
If your community is served by Mediacom, you are eligible. There is a list of the towns we serve that can be found here.
This can come from anyone in the community or from your school.
A school letter of recommendation could come from teachers, coaches, sponsors, tutors, counselors or anyone who works or worked with you on a day-to-day basis and can vouch for you and your abilities. If you are home schooled, anyone who works with you in an educational, community, church or employment capacity will be accepted as a reference.
A community letter of recommendation could come from someone who oversees your volunteer or employment activities, someone from church, or anyone who is aware of the awesome things you do outside of school.
If possible, yes.
We are looking for a narrative that reflects on your growth as a human being. It should be an interesting story that shares what you
have learned and how you use those lessons to help others. Check out some sample essay prompts here.
- Avoid making a list of accomplishments, with every sentence starting with “I did...” or “I went...”
- Be creative. Write something that will capture the judges’ attention.
- Speak to personal experience(s). This is your story!
You may also include a list of achievements, awards, accomplishments and school clubs to which you belong. This can be included with the list of community events and organizations with which you are involved. Remember to keep this list separate
from your essay.
You may include a resume listing job experiences and abilities.
This would include church groups, civic groups, volunteer work, Boy or Girl Scouts, Special Olympics, etc., any organization
outside of school with which you are currently or have been involved.
The application and all other materials must be submitted no later than March 14, 2025.
Yes. Any type of secondary training is eligible.

No. The World Class Mediacom Scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable award.

The scholarships will be announced April 1, 2025.
If you are selected for a scholarship, the committee will notify you by letter. The letter will contain further instructions.
The money will be given directly to the students to use as they need for their college expenses. This may be done by mail, or area Mediacom offices may choose to present them. More information will be available after recipients are chosen.
Explain a time you stood up for what you believe in.
Write about your experience achieving a personal accomplishment that is unrelated to academics.
Describe a unique family circumstance you may have encountered and how it affected you.
Talk about a person (nonrelative) in your life who has helped you understand yourself better.
How did you work through a crucial time in your life? And how did your perspective on life change after it?
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
Write a story about what it would be like to have an animal sidekick in real life.
You find a message in a bottle with very specific directions. Write about the adventure you embark upon.
Create an essay of your own preference.
Additional determining factors include:
Participation in school activities.
References from one school educator and one from someone in your community.
Participation in community activities.*
*Including any volunteer opportunities, clubs, organizations, or part-time jobs in your community.
Children of directors, officers, employees or agents of Mediacom are not eligible.
Applicants must be legal residents of a community that is being served by Mediacom.
Scholarship awardees may attend any accredited two-year or four-year college, university, technical or vocational school within the United States.
Applicants must intend to pursue a course of study at a qualified post-secondary institution.
Applicants must be accepted by the qualified post-secondary institution prior to actually receiving a scholarship.
Applicants must commence their post-secondary education or training in the first academic year following their senior year of high school.
Applicants must be in their senior year of high school, must be high school graduates or persons who have achieved equivalent certification. If an applicant is awarded a scholarship while in his or her senior year of high school and does not graduate at the end of his or her senior year, he or she is no longer eligible to receive a scholarship.
Students completing high school in fewer than the normal four years are eligible to apply.
Students entering a qualified post-secondary institution in the middle of their senior high school year are permitted to apply the following year.
All scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, political affiliation or social or economic status.
Scholarships are not renewable.
